The Amana/Maytag (Maytag recently purchased Amana) PuriClean II Filter (formerly Amana Clean 'n Clear Filter 12589208) fits all Amana refrigerators with a retractable water filter that pulls down from the ceiling of the fridge. It replaces the following part numbers: WF50, OWF51, 12589208, 12589210, 12589203, 12589206, UKF8001AXX, WF50-NI300, WF50-KNI300, WF50-NI500, WF50-WI500, WF50-KWI500, OWF50-WI500, OWF50-NI300, 67003526, 67003527, 67003528, Sears Kenmore 46-9005 & 46-9006 (used in Kenmore refrigerators with model numbers starting with 596 - these fridges are made for Kenmore by Amana), and Whirlpool/Kitchenaid 4396395 (used in the new Kitchenaid Bottom Freezer models with interior water dispensers). It improves the taste and odor of the water and removes the following impurities: 99.99% of Cysts, 98.68% of Particulates (Class I), 97.26% of Chlorine, 97.09% of Turbidity, 99.35% of Lead, 76.99% of Atrazine (a herbicide), 98.72% of Lindane (a pesticide), 92.97% of Toxaphene, 99.99% of Asbestos, and 98.72% of Mercury. It Does Not Remove Flouride. Amana/Maytag recommends that you replace the filter when the filter change indicator comes on (if your refrigerator doesn't have an indicator the filter should be changed every six months) OR if the refrigerator has not been used for more than two weeks (for instance, during a move) OR if you notice a decrease in the flow of water or objectionable tastes in the water or ice.

BEWARE, THIS FILTER POLLUTES WATER (2008-12-20)
I bought set of 3 filters from Amazon about 2 month ago and immediately installed one filter into my fridge. After a few days of usage my wife pointed my attention that water coming out the fridge contains tiny, almost invisible flakes. I think it some sort of internal filtering staff coming out of the filter. I tried to use another filter from the set with the same result - flakes. Just think for a second those flakes are actually some sort of chemically active reagents and we have to drink that water!!!
Installation and Quality of Water (2008-12-16)
The name Maytag has been around for decades. They have provided excellent products and service. My refrigerator had this type of Filter when I bougth it. Everyone wanted to know what kind of water I was serving because it tasted so good. The installation process was very easy. The quality and taste of the water is excellent. I would definitely recommend this Filter to anyone who has a similar type of refrigerator.
